About BeeGuide
BeeGuide is an independent beekeeping resource built on a simple idea: every beekeeper — whether you're installing your first package of bees or managing a dozen hives — deserves accurate, practical, and evidence-based guidance.
Why we started BeeGuide
When we started beekeeping, we quickly ran into a problem: most of the information online fell into two extremes. On one side, academic papers and extension services — scientifically rigorous but nearly impossible for a beginner to act on. On the other, blog posts and forum threads — friendly and accessible but often outdated, contradictory, or just plain wrong.
The existing beekeeping sites didn't help much either. The top content sites either hadn't been updated in years, or they were thinly disguised storefronts pushing one brand. Nobody was publishing independent equipment reviews. Nobody was comparing bee suits side-by-side with real testing data. And nobody was doing it in a way that a first-time beekeeper could actually follow.
So we built BeeGuide — the resource we wished we had when we started.
What makes us different
We test gear in real apiaries. Our equipment reviews aren't rewritten Amazon listings. We buy the products, use them through full seasons, and report what actually holds up — not just what looks good on a product page. Every review includes direct comparisons, honest pros and cons, and clear "best for" recommendations based on climate, experience level, and budget.
We write for beekeepers, not entomologists. Our guides are detailed and thorough (most run 2,500–3,500 words), but every piece of advice is actionable. We skip the jargon unless it's the correct term, and we always explain what it means. If a step can go wrong, we'll tell you how — and how to fix it.
We cite real sources. When we make a claim about varroa treatment efficacy, overwintering survival rates, or honey harvest timing, it's grounded in published research or verified extension data — not anecdote. If we're offering an opinion, we say so.
How we review equipment
- Research & shortlist. We survey the market, read user reviews across multiple platforms, and identify the top contenders.
- Hands-on testing. We purchase the products (never rely on manufacturer samples) and use them in working apiaries through at least one full season.
- Side-by-side comparison. We evaluate each product against the same criteria: protection, comfort, durability, value, and suitability for specific conditions (hot climates, beginners, commercial use, etc.).
- Ongoing updates. Products change. We revisit our reviews annually to verify that our recommendations still hold up.
Affiliate disclosure
BeeGuide is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
This does not affect our reviews. We select products for testing based on market research and reader requests — never on commission rates. Our editorial process is independent from our affiliate partnerships. If a product is bad, we say it's bad — even if it pays a higher commission.
